Pre-configuration Steps 

Note: Before initiating any domain transfers ALWAYS make sure DNS settings are backed up and copied to a Google Sheet

How to Backup your DNS Records

‍

1. Login to Your DNS Hosting Provider:
   
   1. If your domain is hosted on Namecheap, GoDaddy, Cloudflare, or any other DNS provider, log in to your account.

‍

2. Navigate to DNS Management:
   
   1. Find the section where you manage your DNS settings. This is usually labeled as DNS Management, DNS Settings, DNS Zone, or Advanced DNS.

‍

3. Copy All DNS Records:
   
   1. List the DNS records (A, CNAME, MX, TXT, etc.) shown on the page.
   2. Manually copy the details (name, type, value, TTL) into a file, such as a text file or spreadsheet for easy reference.

Steps   

‍

*Please note: In order to transfer Domain Ownership, your Domain must be connected to a Squarespace site.

‍

-If you do not have a site connected to your domain, please proceed to the section below titled How to Connect your Domain to a Squarespace Trial Site.

‍

-If you do have a site connected to your domain, please proceed to the section below on How to Transfer your Domain Ownership.

How to Connect your Domain to a Squarespace Trial Site

‍

1. Open your Spacesquare account through https://account.squarespace.com/
2. Under the Dashboard. Click the “Create Website” button located at the upper right corner of the page.

‍

‍

3. Follow the necessary steps and choose a random website template.

‍

‍

‍

4. After creating a trial site. You need to connect the domain you own.
5. To connect your domain. Go to the “Settings” page of the trial site. Then click the “Domains & Email” then click the “Domains”.

‍

6. On the “Domains” click the “Use the Domain I owned” and (1) input the domain name. Then click (2)the “Connect (name of the domain).

‍

7. Your trial site is already connected to your domain and can now proceed to Transferring of domain ownership procedure.

How to Transfer your Domain Ownership

1. Open your domain portal through https://account.squarespace.com/
2. Select the site that you want to transfer.
3. Click the “ellipsis” located on the right side of the site. Then click the “Settings”

‍

4. You’ll be redirected to the site’s settings page.
5. On the settings page. Click the “Permissions & Ownership” located on the left side of the page

‍

‍

6. On the “Permission & Ownership”. Click the “Invite Contributor” button and input the name and email address. After that click the “Invite” button to send the email invitation

‍

‍

‍

‍

7. And on the “Transfer Ownership”. Select the Elate team name.

‍

‍

‍

8. After that click the “Continue” button and then click the “Confirm” button.

‍

‍

‍

9. Domain ownership is now transferred.
